Department Reps

What is a Department Rep?

You might have got here through one of the flyers that we’ve been handing out, or perhaps you heard about it in a lecture. Fear not! Explanations about what a Rep is follow:

A Department Rep is a student who actively represents all their peers within their department, within their year.

In most cases there will be more than one rep (you can work together) due to student numbers. You will sit on a Staff/Student Committee where you can raise issues that have been brought to you or simply voice your opinion and student concerns regarding any issue.

Instead of each and every Course (or set of modules) having a Rep, the Department Rep system means that Reps will represent their actual Department (within their year group).

Reps will now have more responsibility but will also have more power to help change things for the better.  Not to mention the new and improved benefits for Reps and the fact that you can engage in your Union a lot easier with the chance to help make decisions that can impact on your entire Department, Faculty, or even the whole University!

On top of liaising with your department, you will be required to keep in touch with your Faculty Rep and attend a few meetings a term with them and your fellow Reps from all over your faculty.

For information on becoming a Department Rep right now, speak to your department administrator and they will run you through their nomination process as it does vary from department to department.
